Classmate Portrait

MU junior Caitlin Miller is heavily involved in activities on campus, including a sorority. She is also in the middle of changing her area of study - from photojournalism to magazine journalism, which, combined with her busy schedule, makes her feel pretty stressed out at times. However, Miller always remains upbeat and bubbly because she feels confident that she is making a change toward something she truly wants to do.

Portrait Inspiration

I chose this portrait because I feel it does a good job at expressing who the subject is as a person. The subject is in her natural element, relaxed and being herself, which makes the photo seem more real. It was shot in available light, but under the shade of the tree, so no harsh shadows fall on the woman's face, which would have taken away from the "happy" feel of the photo.
